The madness, the hysteria, the anticipation, the anxiety surrounding the biggest and the most prestigious award in the movie world,
makes everyone from the big boys of the film industry to the ‘yet-to-make-it-big’ boys wait, with bated breath all year.
Many regard the Annual Academy Awards – The Oscars, as one of the fairest and most unbiased awards held in honor of films, voted upon by the expert Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, composed of over 6,000 film professionals.
Being an ardent cinema lover, The Oscars have always been an incessant muse, which has grown over time. However, more often than not, I have often felt the winners, and to quite an extent the nominations have been quite hard to fathom.
For instance, someone as brilliant like a Christopher Nolan not getting nominated for the Best Director category for his film ‘Inception’ completely beats me. The way the screenplay, the editing and the masterful direction of this fantastic film ‘Inception’ has been given the cold shoulder by the Oscars and BAFTA is exasperating to say the least.
If Christopher Nolan suffered at the hands of Tom Hooper (Director of King’s Speech) this year, then last year it was the maverick Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Bastards’ that lost out to Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘The Hurt Locker’. Likewise, there have been many instances where they have completely ignored some of real piece of art that should have been the proud recipient of the Oscar Statuette (read: Amores Perros).
But this is understandable - considering that their critics and viewers are over a zillion people, it is hard to please everyone. There can, after all be only one winner!
